The Thermal Tazer is X-COM's primary non-lethal weapon at the start of the war. It is used for capturing alien specimens for interrogation. It is reliable and powerful and functions like the old Stun Rod except that it freezes its targets.
As it does not have ammunition restrictions, it can be used continuously through the duration of the battle.
As a melee weapon, the Thermal Tazer's main weakness is that the attacker must be adjacent to the target. The danger lies heavily in the approach. It also is the slowest melee weapon available but is one of the few starting weapons that can easily disable a Lobsterman.
